2007 National Youth Gathering

Over 600 English District Lutheran students and adults from across the United States and Canada attended the 2007 National LCMS Youth Gathering July 28- August 1 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. 25,000 youth and adult paid participants from every LCMS district and several nations and 1,500 volunteers gathered under the theme CHOSEN based on 1 Peter 2:9. The 2007 event marks the 10th triennial National Gathering.

Nearly 350 young people attended the 2007 English District Youth Event at the Groove, Universal City Walk, Orlando on August 1 under the theme for the "Universally Chosen". Many of our English District youth groups also took advantage of the Universal Park ticket options as well. Extremely positive feedback was received on this event.

Cathy Taylor, Grace Lutheran Church, Wyoming, MI, served as our 2007 English District Coordinator for both the 2007 NYG and English District Event. Parish Services Executive Tim Ewell and President/Bishop David Stechholz participated in both the NYG and the district event. Tim Ewell comments, "It is exciting and inspiring to see this 25,000 LCMS youth involved in Bible study, worship, service projects, workshops and other experience-based spiritual growth activities. This event is one of the examples of the LCMS at its best."

During the NYG, the English District booth was perhaps the busiest of all the district booths with the popular opportunity for the youth to create personalized tags for their gathering backpacks. The booth was staffed by various youth and adult volunteers from a number of our district churches.

At this time, planning is underway for the 2010 National LCMS Youth Gathering. The event's location will be announced in the months to come. Cathy Taylor will once again serve as our English District NYG and District Youth Event Coordinator.
