Hope Lutheran Church

Kitchener, Ontario

Hope Lutheran Church, Kitchener, Ontario is currently involved in two different building projects. One of these efforts is the expansion and renovation of their own church building in Canada while the other project is in South Sudan, Africa.

For this latter endeavor, Hope is working as a partner with the Children of Promise International – Canada in building the New Hope for Children Orphanage in Malakal, Sudan. Members of Hope Lutheran have donated approximately $50,000 toward the estimated $60,000 construction costs. Land for the orphanage has been secured from the government and an engineering firm from Costa Rica has offered to donate their services for this construction project.

In addition, a prefabricated medical clinic is being shipped to be erected upon this land in the Sudan. A fence is also being built around this area to create a safe haven compound. The goal is to construct a medical clinic, a guesthouse and a church along with the orphanage on this piece of land. The medical clinic is a project of the Nebraska District – LCMS.

Last month, Hope Lutheran Church covenanted to be a sister congregation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church if Malakal. Hope Lutheran looks forward to raising additional funds for the construction of a church building for this congregation in Africa.

It is the prayer of Hope Lutheran that there will be mission trip opportunities for its members to go to Africa and help with this project in the future. This is truly an amazing door that God has opened for Hope Lutheran, Kitchener, Ontario.
