100th Anniversary Update

The English District 100th Anniversary Committee is pleased to hear that the congregations and schools of the English District are preparing to celebrate our District Centennial locally. Many churches are doing this over the course of the celebration from May 15, 2011 through the District Convention at the end of June, 2012.

As a kick-off, the Committee will share an anniversary presentation at the Professional Church Workers Conference (May 10-12, 2011) in Detroit, MI. Pastors and other workers will experience the District’s history, mission, and future under the Lordship of Jesus Christ in this special presentation under the theme: “Faith Driven – Future Focused.” But what is happening locally?

Holy Trinity, Lakeview, MI is a western Michigan congregation that has endured what everyone has endured in this economic climate, including losses of jobs. Pastor Steven Voelker reports that the anniversary has provided an opportunity for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church to host the Detroit Lutheran Choralaires in concert for the community on Saturday, May 21, 2011. On Sunday, Bishop/President Stechholz will lead a Bible study and preach the anniversary sermon, followed by a congregational luncheon.

Another congregation, Martin Luther Chapel, Pennsauken, NJ, is planning a May 15, 2011 birthday cake and an outreach project of collecting shoes for “Soles for Souls”. Additional activities are being planned through the school according to Mrs. Pat Gilde, a member of the church and the district anniversary committee.

Use the anniversary as an opportunity to launch a new mission or ministry in your congregation, circuit, or area. Let the District office know what is being planned at your church and school in celebrating our 100th anniversary under God’s grace and blessings in Jesus Christ.
