Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. -Matthew 10:29
There have been times in my life (and I'm sure in yours) where I have felt like "I got dealt a horrible hand". In fact, I would go so far as to say that for most of my life things haven't worked out the way that I planned on them working. Up until this year, those words would have been penned in spite, but this fall I really learned about the sovereignty of God.
If you really search the depths of this truth, that nothing falls to the ground apart from the will of our Father, the results are amazing. I say that it is amazing because we know, as believers, "that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). With these two bible promises combined we see that God is in complete control, and in addition, that He is controlling things for our own good!
The perspective of a person who truly believes these promises is completely set apart from the world, and even in itself magnifies God. So often we try to physically set ourselves apart from the world. Many people embrace the "don't buy that, look humble, and so on and so forth" mentality, but to truly be set apart from the world has nothing to do with the appearance, and everything to do with the motivation. People that embrace this perspective are filled with the joy that Christians are called to model, because the perspective embraces the understanding that they are embraced by God's love. What more can I say? Today dwell on this and praise the Lord! - Matt Joynt
