The Name of Jesus

Acts 4: 11 – 12, Philippians 2: 9 - 11

Some 5th grade kids were asked the question “what is love?” One said, “love is kissing someone and liking it”. Another, “love is taking out the garbage even though you don’t have to”. And a third “love is when you say the name of the person you love, it sounds different than any other name”.

The name of Jesus is a powerful name. It’s a name that eventually everyone
will say is the name of the Son of God as we read in Philippians. If you would, consider and meditate on some of the many names of Jesus:

Jesus = Savior True Vine
Christ = Anointed one Cornerstone
Messiah = Chosen One The Rock
Emmanuel = God with us Bright Morning Star
Deliverer The Way
King of Kings The Truth
Lord of Lords The Life
Wonderful Lamb of God
Counselor The Word
Mighty God Great Physician
Everlasting Father Great Teacher
Prince of Peace Refuge
Good Shepherd The Light
Advocate The Door
Bread of Life Son of God
Living Water Son of Man (human)

Jesus. There really is something about that name. I suppose that is why it is the target of abuse. “O Christ!” “Jesus H. Christ!!” etc… I believe that Satan works hard to get people to abuse that name. Ever notice that no other “god” names get abused except Christian ones?? Hmmmm…

Do you love Jesus? Does that name sound different than any other name when you say it? Can other people tell that you love Jesus by the way you say his name? Do you ask others to not abuse that name in your presence?

Thank God for Jesus, the name above all names. Be careful how you use that name. Seek to keep it holy, special, and worth loving. Be bold to protect it from misuse or abuse. – Richard M.
