Isn’t it amazing how one little letter of the alphabet can completely change the meaning of a word, and then even a sentence, sometimes with tragic or comical results. Consider these items from actual church publications:
Thursday night church supper – prayer and medication to follow.
The flowers on the altar this morning are to announce the birth of David,
the sin of Bob and Julie Smith.
The men’s retreat will be hell May 10 and 11.
Mrs. Tyler will be in the hospital this week for testes.
Anyone who enjoys sinning should join the choir.
What a difference one little letter can make! Certainly there is power in one little letter. We can also see this type of power in the events of our lives. I am willing to bet that most, if not all of you, have experienced this power through just one little action or word that someone did for you, or someone you know. Or perhaps, that you did for someone else.
This happened with me during a very hard time in my life. I was greatly comforted by the simple gesture of a friend patting me on my shoulder as he walked by. More than just my shoulder, I was touched with the reassurance that all was going to work out ok. A small act, but it meant a lot to me.
Consider these verses: Matthew 9: 20-22, 10: 42, 25: 34-36. All are examples of God working through simple, little, single actions to communicate His care and love for people.
I would highly encourage you, that when you recognize a situation where someone just might benefit from a seemingly simple, little action, that you do it! You just never know how powerful that action could be, or how much impact it may have. Encouragement. Preventing a suicide. Leading someone to faith in Christ… Who knows what God may accomplish through even one little thing. There is power in just one!
Hebrews 13: 2 You just never know…. Pray for those opportunities.
