Working in God’s House at Night

Bible verses: Psalm 134

I remember the night that Psalm 134 became real to me. It was at an Underground concert back when we first started having concerts. Some of the kids (Lori and Lisa Kempf) and I would go into one of the basement rooms to pray for ourselves and the concerts. Back then we were particularly concerned about safety, because “moshing” was a big thing and people were crashing into each other a lot. We handed out quite a bit of ice in those days for bumps and bruises!

So one night when we entered the Prayer Room, the Bible laying on the table in front of the cross was open to Psalm 134 and I read the words, “Praise the Lord, all you servants of the LORD who minister by night in the house of the LORD.”

It struck me that at this particular time, this Bible verse was talking about me! By praying for these concerts, I was “ministering” at night in God’s house. I’m sure the writer of the Psalms didn’t have Underground concerts in mind when he wrote these words, but perhaps God, who inspired all writing of Scripture, did! Yes, we are ministering in God’s house at night when we attend these concerts, show kindness to people who come, teach each other through the words to our music and pray for the shows.

Dear Lord, may people continue to see you at Underground shows, as we your servants serve in Your House at night.
